Blackwork has been stitched for hundreds of years, even mentioned as far back as in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and progressed right through the Tudor period where dresses were really ornate, and has continued through to today albeit most work is made into pictures or used for other projects. From Georgian times, younger children would do a sampler to show off there stitching prowess.

The nice thing about this pattern is all the many different motifs.... all of which can be used in a multitude of ways, in cards or coasters etc. and in between each motif is a different fill design as well. All in all 25 different patterns and fills in one project.

This is one of those project that is easy to do in bite sized pieces.  Each section could be stitched in an hour or two so even when you don't have much time, you can really see your work grow.
Our model here has been made up into a cushion (pillow pad and backing fabric not included ) and is stitched using Black thread, but if you wanted to change either all the motifs or all the fills or in fact all of the design for a specific colour to match your decor then it is easy to do.

Either stand alone, displayed next to partner pictures or made up into a Cushion, the finished design would look beautiful in any home.
